Nottoway is one of the many beautiful plantation ante-bellum homes built along the Mississippi River between New Orleans and Baton Rouge. It is located on River Road, one-and-one-half miles north of White Castle. It was built in 1857 by John Hampden Randolph, of Virginia, who made a fortune in sugar. With its fifty rooms, it is the largest plantation home in Louisiana. Today it is a popular tourist attraction and many visitors stay overnight in the numerous bedrooms in the home. It is also a popular place for weddings and receptions. Sometimes young newly-weds spend their first honeymoon night there.
